Critical Care Medicine: Pediatric Critical Care

1. Explain the anatomical and physiological differences between pediatric and adult airways/systems and their clinical implications for critical care transport
2. Apply structured airway management decision-making, including intubation preparation, direct vs. video laryngoscopy selection, and difficult airway algorithms
3. Recognize compensated and decompensated shock and abnormal pediatric vital signs using structured assessment frameworks (e.g., Pediatric Assessment Triangle)
4. Calculate and safely administer weight-based pediatric medications and fluids, and apply appropriate monitoring during transport
5. Differentiate and manage common pediatric respiratory emergencies (asthma, bronchiolitis, croup, pneumonia) including escalation of respiratory support
6. Recognize and manage pediatric trauma, non-accidental trauma, and shock resuscitation in the prehospital/transport setting
7. Identify and manage pediatric metabolic emergencies and special population considerations (technology-dependent children, hematology/oncology, CNS infection, ventilation strategy)
